This website, utsnoconfidence.vote, is operated by the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU), NSW Division for the purpose of conducting an unofficial vote of no confidence in the UTS Vice-Chancellor.

The NTEU is committed to protecting your privacy and handles personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

What Personal Information We Collect

When you participate in the vote or use this site, we may collect:

  • Your name

  • Your UTS email address

  • Your staff or student category (e.g., academic, professional, HDR, sessional/casual)

  • Your vote (confidence / no confidence / abstain)

  • Optional comments you choose to provide

  • Your preferred contact email address (optional)

  • Your consent to be contacted (if provided)

  • Basic technical information automatically provided by your browser (e.g., IP address, timestamp)

We do not collect phone numbers, dates of birth, or any financial information.

Why We Collect This Information

We collect this information solely to:

  1. Validate eligibility to participate
  2. Prevent duplicate or fraudulent votes
  3. Ensure the integrity and credibility of the vote
  4. Produce aggregated, anonymised results
  5. Contact you only if you explicitly consent and provide a preferred email address
  6. Administer and manage this campaign

Individual votes will never be published or disclosed.

Providing a preferred contact email address is optional and not required to participate.

Is This Vote Anonymous?

This vote is confidential but not anonymous.

Identifying information is collected only to:

  • confirm you are eligible to participate

  • ensure each person votes once

  • maintain the integrity of the process

Your individual vote is never shared, never published, and never provided to UTS.

Use of Your Preferred Contact Email

If you choose to supply an alternate contact email and provide consent, we may use it to:

  • share updates about this campaign

  • provide the final reported outcomes

  • notify you of recommended follow-up steps

  • verify your submission if necessary

You may withdraw consent at any time by emailing nsw@nteu.org.au.

Who Has Access to Your Information

Access to personal information is strictly limited to authorised staff of the NTEU.

No personally identifiable information is shared with UTS or any external party.

Only aggregated, anonymised voting results may be publicly released.

Where Your Data Is Stored

This website is hosted on secure servers which may be located outside Australia (for example, in the United States, Europe, or other regions used by our hosting provider).

By submitting information, you acknowledge and consent to your data being stored and processed in these locations.

The NTEU takes reasonable steps to ensure any overseas storage provider:

  • applies strong security and access controls

  • meets privacy and confidentiality standards consistent with the requirements of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)

  • protects your data from loss, misuse, or unauthorised disclosure

How Long Your Information Is Retained

Identifiable information is retained only as long as necessary to:

  • verify eligibility

  • ensure vote integrity

  • complete counting and reporting

  • meet administrative or auditing requirements

After the campaign concludes, identifiable personal information is deleted or permanently de-identified.

Cookies and Tracking

This site does not intentionally use cookies, analytics tools, or tracking technologies.

Any temporary session storage used is purely functional and not used to identify individuals.

Your Rights

You may request at any time:

  • access to the personal information we hold about you

  • correction of inaccurate information

  • deletion of your submission

  • withdrawal of contact consent
